The Bahamas from a Ship Yard!

Another week has passed and we are still here, in port, in Fort Lauderdale.  We had to move the boat from our birth at the pier {next to the Hyatt} to the ship yards for repair.  Here’s the lovely view we’ve had for the past four, very cold days…not exactly the picturesque exotic island holiday most people are having here!

We have spent most of the time in and out of ‘Funderdome’. A kids play centre with laser mazes, rock wall climbing, trapeze walking and horrible drip coffee.  Why are the American’s the only ones avoiding coffee made on milk?

We are about to leave on our first mechanics test run, so let’s hope ‘Keith the Marine Engineer’ gives us the thumbs up to head to the Bahama’s tomorrow morning.

This afternoon we move back to our space near the Hyatt grounds, so into the outdoor hot tub we go!

I must admit, last week, I did have a small preview of how it’s going to be when Sebastian is no longer interested in dinosaurs and Thomas trains.  He seemed to have a mutual liking for a gorgeous little Jamacian girl named Melinda.  She had the long dark wavy hair, big eyes, gorgeous tan, legs up to her armpits…and at age 4 no cellulite!!

For a couple of days they frolicked around in the hot tub {which is big enough for about 20 adults}, twirling each other around in inflatables and just generally playing, cat and  mouse, as they followed each other from pool to pool.

He waded past me on the stairs and said a nonchalant ‘hi mum’ and kept moving past {with Melinda following closely behind}, I tousled his hair and said ‘hi’ back.  I had this over whelming feeling that I only just got away with the hair tousling…it wont be long before it’s no longer cool to come to mum for affection, especially while anyone else is watching and definitely not if there’s a girl in sight!

I am secretly hoping that Melinda and her family have moved on in their holidays plans when we return today!

Mechanics update: We are not island hopping tomorrow.  Still major problems down in the floor of our floating caravan…the upside is we can move back to the Hyatt for the weekend and act like we’re really having a luxury holiday, sneaking in the side entrance!

Hopefully Monday will bring a solution as Daddy Deer is terribly down, his new pride and joy is docked indefinitely and there’s only so much polishing he can do!

I should be awarded a Phd in psychiatry by the time we get home, pumping him up, by offering…’at least we are all together’.
