I think everything is going ok with our third little deer. I’ve had nausea most of the day {and night} for the past three weeks and can’t stomache the thought of meat, so signs are good. Week 9 morning sickness also means I have not been able to finish taking my Chinese herbs, just CAN NOT get them down.
After a recent consultation with Dr Wu, the inquisitive and naïve side of me asked the Chinese pharmacist {standing in front of 100 little brown drawers} ‘what’s in that powder Dr Wu prescribes for me?’
She looked at the Manager, they looked at each other, had they suddenly lost their ability to understand English?
Finally the young girl smirked and said ‘deer’. Did I hear right? All I managed was ‘Oh’, as images of Bambi and Ip {Audrey Hepburn’s pet deer Pippin} popped into my head.
‘What part of the deer?’ I shouldn’t have asked, but I just have to know everything! More knowing glances between themselves, ‘the bones’….. ‘and?’ I urged sensing there was more to the story….’the skin’.
Arrrgggghhhhh Oh My God! I had been dissolving that powder and drinking it ‘like soup’, as instructed, two times a day for the past three months. Since I now know it’s Bambi Grindings I gulp it down as fast as possible! I stare straight ahead and think about holding a precious little baby in my arms again.
I have a huge respect for living creatures, I think it’s cruel to ride a horse, but if drinking the Chinese ‘decoction’ and dissolving some deer off cuts in a drink will get me my next healthy baby…then who am I to argue with centuries of ancient spooky Chinese Medicine!
Happy Chinese New Year!
